“KANSAS . . . AS BEAUTIFUL
AS YOU THINK!”
High School Art Competition
Kansas students enrolled in 9th through 12th
grades are invited to participate in the third annual competition to celebrate
the talent of Kansas
students and beauty of our state. Competition
finalists will have their works displayed at the Native Sons and Daughters
Banquet held annually in Topeka in conjunction with Kansas Day festivities
(January 25, 2008). Works may be
displayed at other appropriate forums.
Competition will be judged in
the categories of 1) painting, 2) drawing, 3) color photography, 4) black and
white photography 5) pastel, and NEW THIS YEAR: 6)digital imaging ( Students may manipulate imagery of their
own creation in a program like Photoshop or Illustrator.) and 7) mixed media (2-D
but students can draw and paint on top of a digital image or layer on some
collage work.) Works must be created during the current school year. Winners of each category will each receive a $100
scholarship and a $300 scholarship will be awarded to the Grand Prize
Winner. Works shall be based upon the
theme, “Kansas
. . . As Beautiful As You Think!”
Photographs or scanned images
of entries must be submitted as attachments to electronic mail sent to kansasjan29@yahoo.com
no later than 9:00 p.m.
December 10, 2007. Finalists will receive electronic
notification of the deadline to submit original works for final judging.
Entrants do not need to be
born in Kansas.
Kansas Native Sons and Daughters is a
nonpartisan organization which celebrates Kansas and recognizes the Kansan of the Year
and other distinguished Kansans. This
forum is an excellent opportunity for Kansas
students to be recognized as outstanding artists and for all to revel in the
beauty of our home state. Finalists will
be given an opportunity, but not an obligation, to sell their entries.
Electronic submissions should each contain the
following information:
- Name of student
- E-mail address of student or person who can
contact student
- Student home address
- Student home or mobile phone number
- School that student is attending
- Art instructor’s name
- Birth date of student
- Name of art work
- Category of art work (painting, drawing, color
photography, black and white photography, pastel, digital or mixed media)
- Date of
Creation of Art work
- Description of techniques employed (100 words or
less)
- Statement of why the subject of the art work was
chosen for representation (100 or less)
We urge you to encourage all
talented students to participate in this exciting event. Please only one entry per category per
student. Finalists will receive
